        Yes mate, there is.

When I was told the department I work in was being closed, we were told it was because our machinery wasn’t up to the requirements of the company and it needed too much investment (£1 million over 3 departments in a company with a turnover of £20mpa and profits over £4mpa) so the decision had been made to outsource as it’s cheaper.

I have been approached by a subcontracting company who have been given the contract to produce the parts that I produce at the moment. With the ironic twist of the new company taking all the machinery from my current company, thus putting me right back where I am except 30 miles in the opposite direction!!

It just goes to show my management are talking shit if they can pay a subcontracting company to pay me to make the parts I’m currently making, but hey, outsourcing is the way forward apparently!!!

Looking at the positives though, I’ve been sort of stuck in my current employ, there’s been zero chance of promotion and I’ve been talking about leaving for far too long. It’s only the close proximity to home and the facilities to make my own bits n bobs that’s kept me there. This new job isn’t much different in travel time and the slight pay increase covers the fuel. The big plus is there’s the opportunity to learn new disciplines and a real chance of promotion as it’s a newish company so I’m starting at the right time, well I think I am.

Thanks to everyone who wished me well, it’s appreciated
