Graham Goode do replacement diaphragms and springs for the standard compressor housing dump valves as I had to replace mine a few years ago which caused cutting out at junctions etc. I had the same symptoms described above.

If this has been blanked off have you thought of trying something similar from a different model.
    for example: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=FM...QVfBs8QgjYImQI

    may be a solution?

I don't have the standard one that what I need to find and start with that I think, I'm not sure how the standard one works on the turbo

rover turbo's (tomcats) had the same turbo and recirc valve so look for one of them if your stuck

There are two types of EEC diagnostic connector in place from the factory. They both reside between the left strut top and the bulkhead.

            1. Hardwired bridge and blink works by bridging terminals and reading off the pulses from another. Wire and a multimeter or LED works. There are many fault code readers available that make the task easier.

            2. Software and interface module. The Czech ForDiag kit with a computer will read out the codes among other things. Other similar products are available at greater cost.

            Cheers

It allows air to flow from the compressor housing outlet to the inlet when the inlet manifold plenum pressure drops from boost to vacuum on throttle close.

The EEC relies on MAF flow readings to set fuel, spark and control idle. By fitting a dump valve, air goes through the MAF that does not go through the engine. So the EEC adds fuel to match the metered air, reduces spark and tries to correct for excess idle air.

It is possible to fit an aftermarket recirculating valve on the turbo or external to the turbo. BUT it must be done so that the MAF is not backwashed by air.

Does the new focus rs dump valve fit the escort? It looks the same shape also as the small turbo

Also it only seems to cut out when warm

                      Rich while cold vs hot.
Open loop vs closed loop engine control.

I have a small turbo and atmospheric Nomad dump valve with the OEM DV sealed up and have never had any problems like this? Bought the car like it 10 years ago. How common is the problem?

I think Nissan GTIr Pulsars had the same one too.
