I had a lot more problems with this in the past on my 4x4 than on my 2wd. On the 4x4 I disconnected the TCA from the crossmember. I'm not even sure the ball joint in the TCA can make a big enough angle to push the hub down from the strut in its normal position. I think it is almost at its biggest angle on full droop of the suspension.
As mentioned, remove ARB clamps from the chassis legs and use a long bar/pipe to lever the hub down, there is enough room as I did exactly this on Sunday when I fitted a new strut

Ive tended to do it the long way. Loosen drive shaft /hub nut first, Remove brakes/bells and start off as if your going to remove a shaft. ie disconnect outer TCA and steering tie rod ball joint. Remove shaft so you have the hub assembly and strut hanging loose from the top mount. Undo the strut holding nut and tap the hub off the bottom of the strut. This also gives you access to all the bolts so clean and copper crest for re-assembly. Only issue would be not disturbing the ABS sensor which ever way to do it, as there not prone to being that strong.
