  • Interior sound deadening

Does anyone have a picture of there dashboard removed? Can't remember what the sound deadening looked like under there and mine is pretty knackered.. looking at dodomat and dynomat to see what I can use.. I've got nothing in at the minute.. just put loom back in..

whilst I'm at it, might aswel get some for the under carpet..

any help appreciated, pics info or whatever used.. iirc it's foam with shiny stuff under dash?

    thanks

I've always used dynomat, years back i had a 4x4 sapphire cosworth and went to town on the audio. All doors, boot lid, boot floor, inner rear panels and also I did the bulkhead and floorpan from bottom of the screen right through to the boot floor. Some places had 2 layers. Carpet and dash was a bitch to get in afterwards, but it was worth it - the doors sounded like a rolls royce when they were shut. I even put extra anti vibration pads on the roof skin inside.

The stuff I used was rubber matting, around 8 to 10mm thick from memory. You could get it with silver on the outer face, I just went for the rubber outer one. I also used that kind of fibre matting stuff up the bulk head and in the floor under where folks feet go.

Only downside was the weight, it's heavy stuff and as I'd added so much extra material it weighed a fair bit. Was ok though, we released some extra horses from the old YB at the same time.

Good info thanks... i don't mind the extra weight for some refinement..

at the minute I don't even have the standard stuff.. I remember it was 2 layers but can't remember where.. it all got lost or crumbled up after we stripped..

Ok so only one layer I see that is cut around.. I think I may be able to get something close to that.. since you have been through it.. what else did you use on the interior bulkhead for sound?

Thank you very much for the pics

Yep, that is how they are as standard - I was lucky, mine was only in 3 pieces so I reused it all.

The great thing about dynamat is that if you get it warm it becomes pliable so you can mould it to fit the contours.

So spent good time on the phone today.. spoke to the fellas at deadening.co.uk who sell few different brands

Firstly he told me to basically use the sound deadening stick on stuff which is 2/3mm thick first which I will use on floor and tunnel areas.. doors.. bulkhead.. inner quarters.. this is to stop vibrations etc

This comes in small a4 sheets and doesn't need full coverage so basically small sheets to stick on in places suits me.. most the products are silver but the 3mm comes in black too.. which I went for

                        https://www.deadening.co.uk/products...mm-volume-pack

Secondly for the actual sound deadening I didn't want the extra heavy stuff.. the one I went for is 4 kg per square meter.. don't invisage using more than 2.. this will do the job that the Normal removable under carpet stuff does with heat and sound insulation.. think lower frequencies.. road noise etc
