  • Turbo Boost

Not had my Cossy long, previous owner who had it 16 years didn't do much to it and apparently never had it remapped.

However just gave it a good blast and it splutters a bit when the turbo is at full speed and accelerator is fully to the floor and the OEM boost gauge goes beyond the red line and stops when it hits the plastic at the bottom of the boost gauge.

If you drive it making sure the boost gauge doesn't go beyond the red then it doesn't splutter at all and still pulls very very well.

Question is can I simply adjust the actuator to lower the boost, I didn't buy this car to go tremendously fast, I bought it for fun and have another faster car so the power reduction won't be an issue. In any case it doesn't go like a 225hp 4wd car, its far quicker, again making me suspect its running way more power.

    Big turbo car?
It could be the actuator at fault

I would advise getting it into a pro to look at, you could very easily kill an engine unless your careful.
It could just need a set up, or maybe have a split diapragm in the actuator meaning it has no boost control etc etc....
      Regards James.

or a leak in the small hoses from turbo to actuator and amal valve.

i had that years ago and boost was only depending on throttle position

Yes it's big Turbo, car has stood for 9 years so anything could have happened in that time. Does anyone know of a specialist in or around Kent?

I know everyone claims to know what they are doing, but that is often not the case.

After the car was stood for 9 years did anyone do anything to recommission it? I'd have thought it would need a good check over! Not just full throttle mate. After 9 years I'd have replaced anything perishable. Just my thoughts.

i wouldn't drive that on boost until it's been checked out, as it'll run lean and melt a piston.

James Auto Dynamix won't be far from you i don't think

but as mentioned above, has it had a full health check prior to being used again?

Don't panic, I didn't just rock up and turn the key after it stood for 9 years. The car was trailered away and afterwards had a new water pump, thermostat, timing belt, alternator, battery, fuel pump, oil, plugs, oil filter, discs, pads, tyres, coolant and brake fluid before the engine was even started. Since it has also had the fusebox repaired as there were several dry joins.

Not sure if I should have done anything else, does the actuator come apart to check the diaphragm?

Got me thinking that perhaps the car had been tuned but I guess it would be hard to tell? Also if it had been properly mapped it probably wouldn't splutter at high (beyond 1.3 bar boost).

easiest way is to pop the ecu out, take the lid off and see if theres a chip in there, that way you will also know who made it
