  • Turbo heat shield

After fitting a new turbo heatshield over winter, due to all the fixings being on one side of the shield it doesn't sit level and kinda leans over towards the engine side as there is nothing to support it on that side. Noticed yesterday that it's leaning that far over its been touching the exhaust it's also fouling the pipes coming out the front on the turbo.
Has any body else had this?? If so what did you do to remedy it?
I'm thinking about making a support brace type thing to try and pull the shield up from the engine side as it's going to melt a hole in it if I don't do something before croft this weekend

thats the problem when you dont have an airbox to attach it to im sure you could rig up a bracket from one of the cam cover bolts somehow

I never said I didn't have an airbox mate, it's there and the shield is bolted to it

it should fit fine then,is it a copy part or genuine as ive seen some copys that are a bit out of shape which wont help things but if you have all 3 fixings then there shouldnt be a problem really, marcus's carbon ones used to have an extra bulge at the back for better clearance on aftermarket exhausts due to them being bigger, that was a good idea

is the bonnet soundproofing pushing it down maybe?

Right had a look tonight, the three fittings mentioned are there are the shield is bolted to them properly, I never had time to take the shield out to see if the bottom bracket was bent down. But looking from the top the side of the heatshield seems reasonably vertical making me thing that the bottom bracket is ok.
Mark the holes were drilled in exactly the same place as an original shield. Why didn't you get them drilled when you were making them??, out of curiosity.
Bonnet sound deadening-unsure, will need to look into that further aswell.
Bad news is one show and the rear of the shield almost has a hole in it

If you can put some pics up it might help see the problem

As I said to you at Cumbria, if you straighten your rear bracket it will bring the heatshield back to where it should be

I think I may have replied on your FB thread? Bottom bracket must be bent slightly, only needs a small amount at the bottom to look more exaggerated at the top.
