  • Hi! New member seeks cosworth for fun and more

    Afternoon all

I joined up today as I am on the lookout for an escort cosworth, I've had mk2 rs2000's, mk1 escort RS's, s1 Rs turbo and an RS1600i. Briefly toyed with other things (911 and Lotus esprit V8) next the Escort Cos is a big one on the bucket list!!

I noticed a garage has had one on for a bit (Hilton Road Garage) the car has reg number K37 LGX. Not sure if anyone knows it?

It has supposedly had a Harvey Gibbs engine 1000 miles ago and is running what appears to be a stage 3+ spec at 385bhp. I'm not overly familiar with 4x4's, but my understanding is that left standard, the front diff and box aren't the most reliable at this power level?? I assume it should at least have a diff strengthening plate?

I don't want a highly strung 600hp car, equally not really into concours standard ones either. something like a stage 2 - 3 car.

I would appreciate any info on the above car

    thanks again

Hi mark welcome to the site . I viewed the car at Hilton road garage but it wasn't for me as the respray it's had isn't the best and it's a basic spec car with aftermarket electric Windows fitted and the seats aren't the recaro type shame as its on my doorstep
    Hope this helps carl

Thanks for the info Carl, much appreciated, you learn something new every day, never know the base spec Cosworth didn't have Recaros!

heading up North tomorrow, might call in for a look, looks like its been for sale for over a year and in the current market looks reasonably priced so curious to see it in the flesh.

Thanks all for comments. I was hoping to keep the spend below £30k to leave some in reserve for the inevitable contingency fund. Someone has kindly been in touch with a car from here, which does look very nice.
Didn't end up seeing the one at Hilton in the end (work took over).

Wish I'd been buying 2 years ago looking at the price trends! Having said that I did ok with my esprit for the same reason so shouldn't moan!
