  • Number of cars owned?

Following on from the Longest you've owned a car thread, what exactly have you owned (probably a thread already on this but couldn't find it)? Cozzfather and Flecth ibuyanycar cossie need not reply - unless you have a super memory? Lob up some pics too if you have some

    My List in order:

1988 XR2 - bought when I was 16 as a project for my dad to get ready for my 17th, was silver and had the optional 7 spoke RS alloys from the 80's on it. It was one owner from new, under 50k on the clock. This is how it ended up:

1982 Datsun Stanza, only owned three weeks whilst looking for a 4x4 cos. No pictures, thank fuck .

1990 4x4 Saph Cos. bought it with 57k on the clock, put 20k miles on this in the first 14 months, only thing it had in that 20k was servicing, tyres, 1 x refurbed prop and a 2nd hand ecu. At 82k it was getting a bit tired so it was stripped to the last nut and bolt resulting in this:

sold it in 2006 to make way for the current Escort.

1988 Astra 3 Door Estate, paid the grand sum of £115 for it with 12 months MOT on it. was a poxy 1.4 petrol with a 4 speed box'. It was bright fucking yellow too. Lasted about 6 months then it blew the crank seal out on the way back from Manchester one day. In true modded style, a transplant was on the cards - my dad had a 1.7 diesel Astramax van with the head off it that was being scrapped due to the labour costs to fix it, so I had that and one weekend we dropped out the wounded 1.4ohv and put the whole running gear from the van in. The company who's van it was had a few of them the same age and this one had been the best looked after and absolutely flew for a van. Anyone who knows Astras of that age will know you can't just drop the derv lump and box in as the petrol ones had different chassis legs and engine mounts so some fabrication was required. A the same time my dad had been keeping left over scrap paint so when there was 6 litres, we opened the container to find it wasnt a bad silvery blue colour. Another weekend later and i'd DA'd it off, masked it up and given it a new lease of life Did me proud for 3 years that car did, ended up with recaros in it from a Opel Manta and it cost bugger all... Except one night some 12 year old toe rag robbed it from outside home, police found it the following day on the welsh coast when the kids crashed it into a ditch in front of them It was a mess, exhaust off, two wheels and tyres scrap, all locks and column fucked - then the insurance company repaired the bloody thing So it lived on some more. When I sold it it went for £300 quid too It would do 600 miles on a tank of fuel (about £35 back in 2002) and it was strangely fast, quicker than my mates 1.7td Nova The fun of cheapo motoring. Mileage on the shell was 265k when I sold it, diesel lump was on 185k and until about 3 years ago it was still going locally.

1996 Fiesta Si, 1600 zetec- Bought this to replace the trusty Astra, and bizarely it was the car that had replaced the XR2 that I bought when I was 16. My mrs learned to drive in it and was again cheap motoring, moved house with the car twice and it was a properly chuckable car. Only sold it in fairness as the Clio we own now came up for sale and like most fiestas from the mid 90's it was suffering tin worm.

1988 Audi 80e - bought this off my brother for 60 quid as my mrs robbed the Si when she passed her test. used it for 2 months to knock about in, put 12 months MOT and 6 months tax and sold it for £350 with 160k on the clock.

1999 Fiesta 1.25 zetec five door, bought of my mrs's mother in law. Uneventful but cheap motoring, never let us down and only non maintenence parts were a fuel filler neck that split and a new steering rack that was damaged when someone hit the car when it was parked and bent it.

2001 Clio 172 Sport - my mum died so with some money that was left I bought my mrs this, standard car with only 17k on it in 2006 from a family relation. Used it for a year but found it a bind in the winter with a baby, so my brother bought it to replace the 182 Trophy he had just sold, mileage was about 27k from memory.

1996 Escort Cosworth Small Turbo - in june 2006 bought one of the last few hundred off the production line, build code SP. I'm sure most have seen my resto thread on this, just glad the bugger is finished so I can use it this summer.

2002 Vectra 1.8sxi - Bought to replace the Clio, ex company car that had light front end (new wing, bumper and headlamp). Paid £2200 for it in 2007 with 80k on the clock- bargain. Was ace with the baby and associated clobber but jesus it was thirsty, only returning around 19mpg around town. Had to sell it on as it was costing too much and the gearbox at 93k started to feel a bit tired. In fairness we sold it to a friend and it's now got 140k on it and the gearbox is no worse.

2000 Y reg Audi A4 1.8t Sport - the replacement for the Vectra, it was one my dad bought with an engine issue (the head was off) with plans to sell on one fixed. It stood for 12 months then I showed an interest so they finished it off and as it was me it had the sides, front and back end resprayed to a good condition to spruce it up. Was only on 48k (in 2008) and only on 57k now. The mrs loves it and it does drive really well, and is ideal for us with a small family. Can't see us changing it for a while in fairness. Been reliable, had a head gasket fail due to faulty gasket but other than that just a couple of tyres and 1 service.

2001 Clio 172 Sport - when I was 30 I wanted to change the silver fiesta for something newer, and at the same time my brother was selling our old Clio, now with 37k on the clock (in 2008) and lightly breathed on to 190 plus bhp

Like the Audi, cant see this being sold for a while as its cheap to run, cheap to maintain, reasonably quick and good handling and has been reliable. I use the car for work so travel anywhere up to Manchester, and anywhere down to Reading. It's just done 56789 miles yesterday

That's it, that certainly helped pass an hour stuck in a premier inn tonight in Manchester
