  • floorpan and outer sill repair..

Got to do some repairs this year, small hole in nearside footwell and nearside outer sill. What gauge plate would be best for floorpan or can you get a panel to replace whole area? and which sill is best to use to fit?

IIRC you can butcher a mk5 escort cill to fit and then id buy a length of angle repair section for the inner cill section and neatly join it all in. Not sure on the gauge though but i would think no more than about 1mm

        1mm is fine.
Try not to go overboard and use battleship plate steel, as this causes more problems later down the line. The metal has to flex at a similar rate to the surrounding metal or else it will slowly cause fatigue fractures ( Over time). The repair also needs to deform in an impact at a similar rate to the surrounding steel.
Remember its a sierra floor pan so you could get a section of floor from a scrappy, or maybe some one has thought ahead and has cut sections out of Sierras already and sells the floor edges???

is it actually a sierra floorpan though - do you not have to shorten the prop when doing a 2wd conversion???

The floor pan is 100mm shorter. i got into building a few ESCOS rally shells for a few people using a MK 5 fwd shell and a Sierra 4x4 floor and tunnel. Looked fine but was on a MK 5 log book. A lot of work, but at the time you couldn't get an ESCOS shell for love nor money and if you could they were ££££.
