  • Tech Question - Driveshaft problem?

I have a hard knocking noise coming from drivers side wheel area when cornering with hard/moderate load on that front corner, noise speeds up to suit speed of corner if you get me!, can feel it through steering wheel also.

I'm thinking iffy driveshaft, ive been under car today and checked everything, also checked all bolts and nuts throughout for tightness.
There is some play on the inner part of the shaft where the tripod is, maybe 2-3mm up, down, and sideways.
Is that normal?, and is there anything else I could check to iliminate it, or look elsewhere, or should I just remove it and Check the tripod?.

    Any advice welcome, cheers.

Is it the shaft in the cv joint housing or the housing in the diff?

I had to replace front diff as cv joint housing is held central by side gear in diff.
    Cheers

The joint that has play is the one in the diff.

Would a lack of grease cause the noise?.. I restored the underside about 7 yrs ago, it was all put together with new grease etc back then.

Good shout, ill check that tomorrow, its got a mongoose on it at moment, so it is tight.

Do you have much play in your driveshaft?.

Well, looks like the radman may have been right☺, haven't driven the car yet so I'm not counting all me chickens, but the exhaust downpipe was loose on back of turbo, and was just a couple of mm away from chassis leg, which was also marked where the pipe had been hitting it.

So hopefully when I get out for a test run, all will be ok, fingers crossed☺.
