On the road they were never really that much quicker than the E46, felt they were lacking in torque.
I had an e46 M and found it abit boring.
Also had a V10 M5 and found that much better speed wise.
Either way the normally aspirated cars do sound great but they will be left with ease by the new turbo cars

Not all about absolute performance though, Dan, it's about driving enjoyment. And there was (for me at least) far, far more enjoyment in the M3 than in the M4 (which I also think is a properly ugly beast too). Which is why when the M3 went, I didn't replace it with an M4. *IF* I were going to have another Beemer (and they are seriously overpriced), I'd go for an M240i. But I think my BMW days are over.....Jim

yes I love the old old school v8 sound but you really have to thrash everywhere to get best out the car as low torq"" I did come close to buying a m2 and the sound is super with the m-performance exhaurst " but the new m3/m4 comp pack kills the m2 on performance and more so after 60 mph
