Does anyone have any real world experience of a B7 RS4?

been offered one for a good price and with it being something I've always lusted after I'm seriously tempted.

it won't be getting used every day, mainly weekends and fun days. What they like to live with? What should I be looking out for?

the car is an Avant with 87k, apparently there's an issue with the swirl flaps??? Which I'm told is common and an easy fix?

    anyone got any input?

    all replies appteciated

When i first drove it back in 05, i was dissapointed, it seemed much slower than c5 RS6.
I don’t look on numbers, i am greading a car by personal experience.
RS4 was manual and it felt like something was wrong with that engine gb combo or i was expecting too much.
a few months back i was passenger in rs4 avant, now with at gb, cheramics, Cf airbox and probably maped and that was totally different experience.
Now, i would defenetly have one and it really looks fantastic.

        Had a choice between e46 m3 and a red rs4 years ago.
loved the look of the rs4 and it had the flat bottom wheel and Recaro wing back seats which are lovely.
they sound great and hold value but in the end I went for the m3, mainly due to the rs feeling abit on the slow side (probably due to 4x4).
also the coking issue put me off, even once you get them clean the process starts again straight away.

If you like it Dave just buy it, you won’t loose out much, if anything on the £££ side of things.
reliability is good just the coking can bog them down abit so maybe budget for a de coke.
sound the nuts with a milltec exhaust

Myself I would stay clear of any Audi if you think a Cossie is expensive to run.

They are not too bad, no different to the M cars, fairly heavy and expensive on brakes/ tyres etc but that’s always the case.
Find a good independent specialist and the servicing is not that bad.

Thanks for the replies albeit mostly negative, surely they’re not that bad or you would hear more horror stories.

I appreciate Audi parts are expensive, I’ve had a few Audi’s before so know what to expect in that regard but they’re just a car are they not, is the servicing and maintenance not something I could do myself?

with regards to how quick they are, that isn’t the top of my agenda to e fair, I smoke around in a golf gt diesel during the week so anything with over 200 horses is going to feel quicker and I don’t want something silly quick as that could possibly dilute my love of the Escort,

it already has a Miltek fitted, would a remap and decoke sort it out?

It was the most disapointing car i have driven... Expected much more of it, and also the owner back then, traded it in quickly since not happy with it...

You would be able to service it fine Dave but I probably wouldn’t as it may put future buyers off being home serviced.
Why don’t you give it a drive and see what you think?
Dont get me wrong they go quite well just not what you may expect.
If you are not overly fussed on performance then it would be a good buy, as said they sound really good with the exhaust.
de coke is not mega expensive and would be well worth it just do you know it’s done, Guess swirl flaps could be sorted at same time

Considered one many a time, found a perfect 2007 example in blue, but it would mean getting rid of the Focus

In the answer to what are they like to live with ?

Surely not as bad as a women so there’s a positive
