  • 600bhp fuel system

Anyone on here run -6 supply and return lines at 600+?

Reason i ask is i seem to have fuel issues on mine, Mark at M.A.D has it and mapped it to its max at 587 but its going lean high revs.

i have oe new steel fuel lines (8mm) fitted with -6 conversion fittings on, and a -8 from fuel pot to secondary pump, the rest is all -6

i run an uprated intank pump and a DW350 secondary, 2 oe filters now.

i read up on fuel systems prior and thought -6 was more than good enough for what i need, or am i wrong........

    cheers Rob

If the Steel pipe has an OD of 8mm, bore size will be less, could be 6mm-6.4mm.
Some of the adaptor filling may (often) neck down to a smaller bore size.as am example M14 to -6 is equal bore but something like M12 to -6 the bore reduces to 6mm through the M12 end.
Not sure if that is your problem but might be worth looking at.
I tend to what Ford used, unregulated blue Holley as a lift pump to either twin genuine Bosch 979 or 044, using the 8 bar version if high fuel pressure, high boost, using the standard secondary/final filter with the addition of a billet Holley filter as a primary filter

he’s going to flow test the system i think, there is a couple of other things to check also, if it requires bigger fuel lines thats going to be a bummer and in all fairness wont happen this year now, as my house build is take up most of my time and cash etc, i did look into fuel systems initially and again read that -6 would be enough.

Im getting a bit fed up now to be honest just seems to be one thing after another with it.

Yes Mark has mentioned this kind of thing could be an issue, i maybe should have had the supply side in -8 from the start to be on the safe side.

could it be the fuel pressure making it lean a bit, may not be getting enough pressure to keep the flow and rail going.

Im sure Mark mentioned that also, be nice if it was as simple as winding fpr up a bit, it was set at 3bar initially

The company that built my 4age has done quite a few turbo charged versions which have made in excess of 600bhp at over 10,000rpm. All done with a Walbro in tank pump and 6an from front to back. Not only do they supply enough fuel and pressure to momentarily reach that number, they also sustain it over long periods. Constant 65psi.

I am sure Mark knows what he is doing and I am not familiar with the Escort Cosworth fuel system, from the pictures, was the banjo fitting fitted to the supply or the return ?
Banjo fittings are very restrictive and companies like Atec sell a less restrictive large ball versions.
If it is on the return then no problem.

                    Steve,

Mark has a wealth of knowledge etc, thats why its there, its just i guess its difficult to pinpoint stuff like this, the amount of issues poped up have been annoying but i guess how it is building cars, but the fuel system is one i never expected.......the car was only supposed to be at MAD for geo and mapping but since has needed extra time so i thank Mark for putting a few things off.

its a pain as he’s not just round the corner from Aberdeen lol

only banjo’s used are on the 1st fuel filter and the sender unit

Here in Sweden we have some cars that still got the original fuel system (lines, fpr, rail...) for 600hp without any problem.

Really, thats reasuring then, most of my fitting etc are Torques i checked there site to see if he states ID on his teflon fuel hose and its 8mm ID for -6, as previously mentioned i wanted to utilise new steel under car lines for neatness those will be slightly less ID.

Not had any news from Mark due to other jobs needing done so i’ll wait for an update and keep my fingers crossed

                            Steve,

Yes mate, that was fitted by Mark as the original sender pipework wasnt great and weaping, so that was changed and a new fuel pump fitted to suit, so bar the sender the only others are on the 1st filter from tank to pot.
