Hi I've recently bought a restored big turbo escort .it's had 95% of it's parts replaced with new.its done 88k and I'm getting like a grrrr noise on lift off over about 30 or 40 mph .which sounds like it's coming from the rear .it's had new wheel bearings all round etc and since rebuild has only done a few hundred miles .any help would be greatly received.

could be the chain in the transfer box that can wobble about when slack as the car comes off load

I had the exact same symptom with my car. Was driving me crazy.
Turned out to be the rear sway bar touching the the upper mounting bolt of the diff. I ground a tiny relief in the sway bar & it cured the noise completely. When I say ground a relief I mean I just barely touched it with a grinder sanding disc.
If you look at the mount upper bolt you'll likely see it rubbing against the sway bar.

it could well be the clutch if you have an after market one fitted,i had same problem on one of mine once, changed the diff and all sorts,id ruled out the clutch as it was a new ap item but i was told by someone i know who is an expert to change it for standard item, seeing as i was only running 300 bhp and a standard clutch was ok for that i fitted a gen motorcraft one and problem solved instantly
