  • Rubbing/Squeaking Noise Help

Wonder if anyone can help...took the Escort out on the weekend and noticed a bit of squeaking. I've heard it before intermittently but it's fairly obvious and constant now...

Basically, it's a squeaking when slowing to a stop or going around corners slowly and also if I'm driving along in a straight line and move the steering wheel to the right a bit.

At first I thought it might have been the suspension or wheel-bearing (?) but given it does it when driving along straight and edging the steering right I'm thinking power steering ? It makes like a 'circular rubbing/squeaking' noise which is like a belt - that kind of noise? Suspect something to do with Power Steering pump/belt/pulleys? As soon as I bring the wheel straight again when driving it stops.

Strange when coming to a stop and not actively steering left or right it also happens but not as much.

    Any help appreciated...

    Paul

If the sound is on cornering it sounds like the oil pump of steering wheel?
If not might be the wheel-bearing. It has happened to me in the past.

Thanks for the replies guys - I’ll get the car out again this weekend and see if I can narrow it down a bit. Could be a few different things at the same time.

        Are the tensioners still available?

I thought the same...not far off a new power steering pump at that price.
