  • Floating discs

    Hi all.
Car been off the road for the last 3 years. Been doing loads to it. Any way. Many many months ago one project was to overhaul all my breaking system. Discs, pads, calipers, pipes.... the lot.
On the front I have 386mm J grooved fully floating with anti rattle springs. In all honesty they fitted by Paul Linfoot over 20 years ago. So I purchased all new AP bolts and floating bobbins and anti rattle springs. New pads and AP 6 pot Calipre overhaul kit. The disc faces had ( as you would expect on a cossie) no wear but pitted with lack of use. I cleaned them up in a media blaster and they looked fine....so Question
Do floating discs feel like they are warped when using then properly Ie repeated high speed usage??
My front discs feel like there warped when they get real use (hot) .
Any one got experience of using this type of Disc set up??
    cheers
    Frank

no you just need a suitable position on your car to clamp the arm & DTI gauge to, you can buy magnetic clamps with flexible arms for this sort of job Frank

Not much point in trying to DTI a floating disc attached to a bell. It will never show true, they float lol
Bell off, disc in the lathe is the best way.
