just thought i would chuck some info up for anyone having issues with their aircon units.
for 7 years ive dived deep into replacemnt units and ways to make this work there are 2 ways that ive found.
there isnt much info online another than take to a specialist , completey remove etc.
if you are unable to source a oringal unit,
there is a adapter plate i have manufactured which then allows you to use a off the shelf replacemnt that was installed into a australia spec ford laser, it is the same 4 rib design as orignal so you will have no clearence issues what so ever , only thing to note is i opted for a stretch belt instead of using the belt tensioner just for simplicity and better clearence issues . only thing you will have to do is change the 2 wired plug that clips into the top , im no good with wiring and i done this easily .
2nd option if you have an oringal unit or are able to get one , they share identical interal parts to an australia car , an AU Falcon. these comprerssors are cheap fron australia distrubutors and very cost effective for shipping to the uk.
i have used my bracket and stretch belt for over a year with no issues what so ever, but i managed to track down a broken standard unit and got rebuilt etc which is also working perfectly .
newer drier and newer aircon lines can we cheaply and sometimes mobile by profesional for solid prices depending in what country your in , in australia it was the same day service.
some say a jag unit will fit , ive tried 4 from all diffrent ranges i didnt have any success , i thought i had some luck with a ford f350 unit this also didnt have any sucsess.
its good to thing to note is if you went down the ford laser option , youll need a adapter for the aircon lines which i managed to purchase off the sehlef locally , again any local air con shop should have these parts on the shelf.
anothing thing to note is that you can use your orignial condensor with the 2 ways ive mentioned but i opted to measure my original one and took it to my local auto store with measurements and used a lateral flow modern design from a generic suzuki and 3d printed some brackets to mount it to my radiator.
this sytem works with both standard and aftermarket radiators as i have a radtec cosworth air con kit and an airtec radiator , if you are using an airtec radiator you will need to have 2 small tabs welded onto the botton of the radiator , any small fabrication shop or radiator shop will be able to do this for you .
