  • Cosworth v Evo.... honesty please :)

How does a Escort RS Cosworth BT stand up to a 1999 Evo 5 RS?
I see the Evo has no luxurys at all but for what its used for that dont really matter.

Are they any good? What power are they standard?
What would it be like head to head with the Cossie, say a motorsport BT cossie?
Not interested in silly replys just good honest feedback please, I know the evo is a little newer, but it is only 4/5 years

Just the man, if I get one it will be heading your way.

Whats week on these evos? what can the 4x4 system take?

The evo is half the price of a tierd Cossie with quater of the miles on the clock... its bloody tempting,

I would ask on that MLR place but they are going to be biased, I know there are a fair few evo owners on this site and most admire a good car.

5 or 6 is my fav as there is only a couple of small diff between the two its down to what looks the best.

The rear diff can go but fit a 7/8/9 unit for about £450 fixs it, the clutch if using stock can go but a upgraded one sorts it.
                Very good cars.

This is the car in question
                    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1731413.htm

Is the price right for a start? thats cheap if you ask me? I am asking all the obvious stuff etc.

                    Mark S,
So no more than a Cossie would need, whats a safe power these car run on the standard turbo? and how much sttick and power can there gearbox take etc?

Seems to cheap for a RS, the rear diff can take over 600hp and the box is good for 600hp also,
The engine is good for about 360hp and so is the turbo.

Thats pretty nice. Ive been thinking about evo's as a bit of fun and something that could be used daily

i can only say by my experience in a 6. but the evo 6 at 314bhp was no where near as quick as my saff at 350 and i mean leagues apart. but the evo is a graeat car,far better handling than the escort, nice looks but not as nice as the esocrt and hasnt old skool kool of the escort.but is a weapon imo.bit plasticy but i dont mind that.

acuator faults are common(bad upside down design)but easy fix, active yaw can be an issue at times but not mega common. and they eat brakes but other than that they are spot on cars

Mark S, I thought it was cheap, I am waiting for a reply from this chap with some questions, lets see what he says I will report back once I know more.

Neil, I will admit, its never going to replace the escos part in me, but until I can afford another and have a good garage to put one in, its going to something like this, at half the price for the same performance, worst thing for me, is the reputation they have with the boy racers.. but nothing a set of black mo's and some chatter wont cure

I would put that car at £7500.
