  • What turbo for my spec

Looking for some advice for the best turbo for upto 420 bhp giving the best responce with my spec.

I was planning on running a T34.55 to save the gearbox but I now have a straight cut box so can go a bit wilder on power.

    Engine spec is

    7.2:1 comp
    ported head
    mls gasket
    long studded
    BD14 inlet cam
    55lb blacks
    4wd inlet

Ideally staying on the 4wd exhaust manifold and want to stay internal gated.

I was thinking roller core T38 or a small GT30

Also no T34 turbo will do 420bhp and stay in one piece.

If you had standard gearbox, I'd say T38, but as you have an uprated one, I'd go for the internally gated GT3071R, but it is nigh on £1500 for Cosworth application (do NOT buy one that has not had these mods, as it WILL fall apart and will cost you to have these mods carried out).

        Obviously suitable injectors are required.

I did that last time around and it didn't end well.....

It will more than likely be Msd mapping it as they did the car the last time and it drives nice if a bit laggy.

                    Mike I know a t34 won't make 420 I was originaly only looking for 360 with a standard gearbox.

I loved my car when it ran T34/63 on light blues it was nice to drive on the road and made 410 lb at 3500 rpm and pulled well and didn't kill my updated box
Then swapped it for a T38 great for power if on a standard box but the car just lost it get up and go and felt like I had a V8 and not a turbo engine, lost quite a bit of torque and just didn't like it
Now have a GT 30 but with a 63 rear end drives lovely and pulls great and hard from 3500 rpm till red line may not be the best rear end if you intend to track it but it is the best for low down grunt

I had a full spec roller T4 on my old car and wasnt impressed with it , but that may of been down to a missmatch of parts and mapping.

I have a T34 with a .63 housing on justnow and find it a bit laggy even compared to my old engines that were similar spec , bar the exhaust cam that is fitted justnow. I have a .55 housing sitting ready to bolt on along with a standard exhaust cam.
