  • Help !!-Rear caliper weeping where hose screws in

I have another problem and this one is a real pain in the arse as I now have to strip the rear trailing arms and repaint them, there is a small amount of fluid weeping from the rear calipers where the hose screws in, the hoses are as tight as I can screw them in but it's still doing it, what the hell is going on, honestly this car
Is there an absolutely fool proof way of getting these to seal properly, it went through MOT although he did say he could see they had marked the paint but they weren't leaking when doing the test and couldn't get them to leak either.

I had this problem before and thought it was the copper crush washer so removed it, all seemed well until I have used it and now its back to haunt me

I have also bought 2 sets of stainless rear hoses as I though the first set could have been faulty but now I think it could be the caliper itself-is this likely
They were reconditioned ones from BIGGRED.

If my car accidentally catches fire in the next few days it wasn't me honestly

Mark I take it you mean male on hose female at end of thread on caliper yes, so they should join in perfect harmony??
Mine has the above but it just wont stop leaking, should there be a copper washer between hose and caliper as I have had conflicting info on this, when wound it tight there is a very small gap between the hose and caliper as if a very thin washer would fit in there??

Honestly this is driving me mad as this is the 2nd time its happened and I have had to repaint the arm!!

I've had this on rear cos 4x4 caliper and it was that there was a tiny (and i mean tiny) mark in the seat where the hose/union screw in. I don't remember ever fitting any washers though.

Mark if I was to file down the seat above the thread so I was 100% sure the hose was seating correctly in the caliper do you think that might help?

I had same problem, just couldn't get it to seal. This was with brand new calipers. In the end in complete frustration I cut the tapered end off the hose fitting and fitted a copper washer. Hasn't leaked since.

Not the right solution, but it worked.

thats what i was going to suggest,my hoses were universal fit so didnt have the tapered end anyway ,instead you just fit a copper washer,no problems at all

Cheers guys this is real deja vu as I put a post up like this about 14 months ago !!
I have a different set of hoses to try and even screwing them into the caliper they feel 'tighter' so maybe the ones I had were just shit

if they don't work I will try cutting the ends off but I cant get my head around how this will be any different than it is currently, ie they still wont be seated properly in the caliper

Dave I know what you mean about 'complete frustration', I am so fucking gutted that all of the paint has come off my trailing arms, it means they need to be repainted and stamped as some of the stamps have come off too

no they wont seat on the bottom that way mat but the copper washer will seal them and because they are shorter you will be able to tighten them properly and not have them bottom out

Cheers guys, I am going to give it a go when I get a spare 5 minutes, I have taken it all apart and cleaned it ready for paint, I am also going to use brake line thread sealant as I can't have this happening again
