  • mk1 focus rs misfire

    hi guys just bought myself a focus for a daily runner its got a slight missfire on boost and kind of holds back has anyone any ideas i know a few of you have one so just thought ide try here cheers

    i reckon if its not smoking or missing ticking over and only coughs on boost then if the person you bought it off never hammered it i reckon your giving it beans and the plugs need changing !!!!!!!

      ey up mate im good still about been busy with the escort just got it about finished just engine and box to fit been busy with work 2....i was thinking plugs on the focus its been sat for 6 months and yeah ive been giving it some beans ......standard ford plugs or iridium uprated do we thinks best

        coil pack! had ours changed a few weeks ago as it had a miss when it came on boost, worth changing leads aswell

          Is it still running the charge cooler system ?

          If so is the pump working , as in can you see the jet in the reservoir ?

          as mine used to do that when the pump stopped working

            Start off with plugs mate gap to 0.7, then try leads if not sorted then last resort coil pack

              try the plugs as your first port of call, they do need to be changed regularly and it's the cheapest thing to go for first.

              The charge cooler pump is a quick 30second visual check into the reservoir.

                cheers guys will have a look tomoz and order some genuine ford plugs and gap them to 0.7 il update tomoz if i have any problems......is the charge cooler pump big/expensive job ?

                  if pumps working and no good with new plugs il get a coil pack and leads would you use genuine ford parts ?

                      On my old focus rs the charge cooler had an intermitting fault of stopping working till I changed it

                      You could tell when it wasn't working as on full boost it would coff and splutter , so would stop and give the pump a hit and away it went again with no problems

                          There's a reservoir under the bonnet at the back of the engine open it up when it's running and see if there's a spray jet of water circulating in it , if there is the pumps working

                          There not hard to fit or expensive usually start working with a scud with a spanner

                            plugs are shot so bought new ones and set plug gap to 0.7 as said,charge cooler is bone dry took pipe off the rad for it and only a small amount of water came out just re filling it now so will see if this sorts it

                              pumps working plugs sorted still got the missfire think its coil and leads next anyone know best place to get them from ?
