  • Engine block cleaning

Anyone know where would clean a engine block? Need it to remove surface rust.
What's the best way to clean it? Acid dip or soda blasting etc?

Paint stripper, wire wheels and steal cleaner. Dry with air line, oil bores and paint with hammerite direct to rust, if you want it even glossier etch prime it and paint it with hammerite spray can

I've bought a standard bore 200 block, its not so much the outside i want cleaned, its quite dirty and rusty inside, all the main cap threads seem shitted up with crap so thought about dipping the block to get it cleaned up?

Also the flame trap hole has a plate covering it can this be removed as its corroded.

Looks like that plate is just riveted on

Most companies that do cylinder head and engineering work should have the facilities to clean your block no problem

Yeah it is riveted on, was wondering if I can run the engine without it?
The turbo side of the block where you fit breather into doesn't have a plate reducing the amount of oil coming out so thought I could remove that plate aswell?

                      Sorry I read it wrong.

It's obviously there for a reason, I'd leave it personally

                          HI JUSTIN
that plate is there to stop it throwing oil out of the breather hole ,the oil hits it and runs back to sump ,you could remove and fit another quite easy

When I done the block on my nova turbo I had it dipped in a hot de greaser and then I think it was a light acid solution bath then back in de greaser then water then dried, it came up awesome
