  • What is it worth? Saph 4x4 Cosworth

Hi guys I've just been to view a 1991 4x4 saph cosworth, body work is shot and seats are worn, it's been standing a few years so brakes and suspension are rusted up. It wouldn't start as battery is flat but guy seems to think it's got an electrical problem anyway possibly immobiliser etc.. He seems a genuine guy and I do believe him. It has a few bits and pieces but nothing much, print outs for 280bhp. Mileage is 130k and after market shitty alloys. . How cheap do cosworths come like this these days? Thanks in advance

Sounds like a breaker only, sub 4k

I thought 3-4k was steep considering you can get one on the road tidy for a couple grand more without any head work ?

It's ok if you can get it cheaper then that but the breakers are making that kind of money now it seems

I shouldn't go far wrong at around 2k then? No matter how rough

Are you going to restore it or break it ?

Id say it's more of a re-shell but would it be worth doing as lots of parts would need changing as it's been standing, I'd possibly break it as that means I get a big turbo transplant into my small turbo escort

                    1 question why?

Just get a turbo, injectors and aftermarket management fitted and save all the hassle! Trust me that's cheaper and easier in the long run, a st engine is a good engine to have! Has piston squirters as std and few other bits....

I spent about 3-4k on mine and had 400hp easy...

Basically I don't like the sight of the newer lump and I think all cosworths should have the YB engine. But I can see where your coming from. If I broke Sierra I should end up with a free engine or at least a very cheap engine with most of set up to go with it.

Completely understand, rs slim on here just did the same....

However it's not a cheap way of doing it you can just swap the heads....

That way you keep the advantages of your bottom end cost you about 600 for a head plus consumables then spend the rest on management and sell your st head......

I didn't realise I could do that, but I suppose if your changing head you may as well go the full hog? Unless the newer style engine has a stronger bottom end?

It's a topic that could go on forever but the short version is swap the heads, sell yours recoup some cash and get a management conversion and turbo swap and you'll better off than old shocky ford loom and ecu

How anyone can give 4k for a shed of a saff to break is beyond me

parts are cheaper now than ever and yet people ask these prices for scrappers

Impossible to break a shitter for 4k
