  • New MOT regs, not good news.....

Anyone seen this on VOSA website?

    Amedment 4228:

All vehicles not originally fitted with carbon fibre parts will fail the new MOT (July 2015 onwards).

    Will put link up.

Edited: Looks like it applies to external carbon parts only (not carbon fibre fitted within the interior of the car).

MOT and vehicle testing – guidance updates July 2015 onwards.

Strange one but if its true I can see why though really, cars are crash tested and made to a safety standard, who knows how they will react in a crash once fred in a shed has cut the roof off etc and stuck carbon on?

there is also the risk to pedestrians, i know of two in my time that carbon bonnets caused near fatal injuries to people when hit by car as the bonnet shattered.

              Authorised Testing Facilities (ATFs).
Document Section E: Excessive lowering of vehicle.

A sphere of 78mm diameter must be able to pass through the gap between the crown of the wheel arch and top of the tyre. In instances where damage to bodywork/paint is possible, a tennis ball may be used for the test.

FAIL: If any of the four wheel arch gaps will not allow the 78mm sphere through.
              Target: All vehicle classes.

Just tested L8 ECU.........tennis ball passes through ok at the rear - no problem.......

Had to use a rubber mallet to get the ball through the front wheel arch gap..........that's a PASS in my book

Will only believe it when they fail it for those reasons...

Some people have painted their carbon fibre parts body colour or black or whatever, how they going to check and enforce that?

And the 'tennis ball' test would fail most modern performance cars..?

                          I don't geddit...
