My buddy has £3k to spend on a watch, I am too long off the scene but I did suggest a Tag Heuer CAW211MFC6324 as there were only 225 made

What's a good buy for him???

I don't think he'll beable to get a 16610 sub for £3000. See what he likes more importantly. I wouldn't recommend buying a Tag from the high street or retail. My suggestions would be:

Iwc, Portuguese chrono,
Cartier, roadster xl, santos xl
omega seamaster or speedmasters are good looking watches.
Breitlings if those are his taste.
