  • New powers to fine uninsured vehicle owners

A scheme for comparing the DVLA vehicle register and the motor insurance database (MID) to identify those potentially uninsured has been devised to support new legislation on Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE). A new offence of being the registered keeper of a vehicle which does not meet statutory insurance requirements (unless subject to a statutory off road declaration) is to be introduced.

Which in simple terms means that as soon as your insurance runs out you have to SORN it, or make sure the renewal follows on with no gap (CIE).

So if you have any cars laid about which are taxed but not insured make sure you get then SORNed.

mmm good idea except a lot of car enthusiasts would end up getting screwed over on the good old tax refund/new tax whole month rule.

How will this work with people who insure the vehicle via another policy??

      Medically Discharged!! Officially insane!!!
