I am having a bit of trouble with my Escort Cossie (T25) . I have an oil pressure problem, which is a bit confusing? From a cold start, it takes about 5-6 seconds to build oil pressure, which then registers on the gauge and turns the dash light off. The car is then fine, as the cold reading is off the top of the dash gauge (as it should be, the oil pump is a burton high pressure 5 bar pump) while the car warms up. As it gets warmer, the oil pressure gradually drops off (as the oil gets thinner I imagine) until at idle (approx 850-900RPM) , it is off the bottom of the gauge, the followers rattle, but the oil light does not come on. As soon as you put any RPM on the engine, the oil pressure rises quickly and the followers quieten down.....The car is on running in mineral oil, but I can't see that causing a problem??
The engine is a fresh build, and everything is brand new (shells, pistons+rings, followers etc etc), everything was measured and in spec. The only thing I can think could be the problem is the Burton Power oil pump? I have heard storys of the relief valve sticking slighly open, allowing the oil to drain back out of the system? Has anyone else had problems with a Burton pump?
