I used to supply this, but found that I was getting excessive oil consumption and could never figure why. However, when this came up in discussions with the guys at Opie oils, they explained that what was happening is that when the oil gets hot in the Castrol RS (because it ISN'T a fully synthetic), the molecules unwind, which causes the oil to physically expand. So if you fill your oil up to the top level and then use the car aggressively, the oil expands, goes above the fill level - and as soon as that happens on a Cossie, it blows the excess out of the breather system - thus causing excessive consumption.

As a point of proof, I then started running my car only up to the ¾ level on the dip-stick, and suddenly the oil consumption reduced dramatically.

Also, because it is a 60 grade oil, when it gets hot, it goes WAY too thick for a high revving engine and should not be used in a car with an rpm limit above the standard car's 6600 (and this is why it gives better oil pressure when it is hot than the Mobil 1, but it is TOO thick for hard track use).

At this point (and under advice from the Opie Oil's guys and Rod's tests of the oils), I switched to Silkolene - the improvement was audibly noticable on start up (engine much quieter) and the car never suffered any oil consumption issues, along with it having much higher shear threshold (temp and rpm) - which is where the physical motions of the engine cause the protective qualities of the oil to break down. In chemical analysis of several oils by a lab for Rod after 200+mph runs, the Silkolene was the only oil that had not degraded in any way shape or form.

In view of that, I could only ever recommend the Silkolene. However, I have heard great things about the Motul, but am happy to stick with what I have seen take the abuse of 200+mph running.

Might try the Silkolene on next oil change

I only run Mobil 1 as previous owner run it in my old engine and that did a lot of track days. Then I got 2 5litre bottles of Mobil 1 for £40 thanks to a Halford's fuck up

When I did an oil change on my Skoda to the Castrol Edge I noticed the engine feel smoother and run better, but this was dedicated VW, Audi, Skoda oil, designed with VW, Audi, Skoda.
