  • Is the New Focus RS a Future Classic ??

    I was having a re-think last night,

I was all up for buying a RS500 in memory to my Father,

But a S/H New Focus RS is the same price, .... and 350 BHP after a Remap

And i will still have the Escos....

It just worry's me that it wont become a Future Investment.

I suppose it if was kept very standard and only a couple of mods it would always be worth
    that little bit more.

I just know if i buy the RS500 i will have to make it like new and it will cost far more !!

    .

    Help Guys !

Alex, I think one day it will become a future classic but don't expect that day to come fast

The RS500 is a classic and always will be, the more the years go by the fewer there probably will be which means prices can only go one way. Have a chat with Paul Linfoot and see what he thinks

A stunning car for sure but the Focus RS just won't ever be as sought after or valuable as a 500.
Personally I would stick to the 500 idea and that way you get to work on the car and get pleasure from it that way.
I'm sure your Dad will be looking over your shoulder as you mint it up

agreed, the sheer rarity of the 500 means that it'll always be more desirable than a Focus RS, mk 1 or 2.

Its an rs so at the end of the day it will be a Classic someday - but not as desirable as the Escort of 3dr/rs500 etc IMO

My thinking was they Will prob not produce another Decent Focus RS due to them using the Fiesta now for WRC

Don't think a Focus RS is a good investment at the prices they're still being sold.
So if you're really worried about future prices I would go for the RS500 and wait some more for FRS prices to drop.

Focus Rs will drop in price for the next 5 years, RS500's will go up in price over the next 5 years. Even if you buy it and restore it over them 5 years Im sure you will make a profit if you sold it

It's a no brainer - The RS500 is iconic due mostly to destroying the competition back in it's touring car heyday - The Focus has done nothing as heroic as that.

The only RS models which will be classics are the homolgation / rally specials - none of the others will get a look in (built in too high numbers) .

So that precludes all the gay wheel drive cars (bar the S1 Escort - homologation special ), which are shopping trollies with an RS badge (not a proper RS) .

The new Focus RS doesn't have a Motorsport pedigree (other than the RS badge) or a limited production run so it won't be seen as a future classic in my mind.
Nice car but not special enough.

Buy the 500 & just take your time to get it how you want it, as others have said they will only go one way price wise.

A quick bit of research could prove useful on this particular car

500 for me every single time Alex. I was only quite young when the 3dr and 500 were released but for me, they were instant classic's and something to aim for - the sort of cars you have posters of on your bedroom wall, next to one of a (white ) countach.

Does any RS since the 500 hold the same appeal, not IMHO. Escos is a close second though

I cant imagine that any young car chaps or chapette would feel the same about the Focus RS tbh but its only my opinion.

RS500 - you know it makes sense
