  • Bleeding Brakes AARRGGHH!!

    Hi all,

I'm looking for some help bleeding brakes as no matter what I do I can't get a good pedal. The escos has been off the road for a couple years. All brake lines/hoses have been replaced so the brakes are being bled from dry. I used an ezibleed to start with until no bubbles could be seen but had no peddle at all. Then done it the old fashioned way starting at furthest away calliper and working my at to the closest (ignition on for rears, off for fronts). No bubbles whatsoever at any calliper but still an awful pedal. I then bled the middle return pipe on the ABS block and got some air out, but still no pedal. I then bled everything again, and again, and again. I must of bled 6 or more litres through the car. Cannot see a single bubble in the fluid but the brake pedal still goes to the floor when pressed. The caliper are the correct way up with the nipples at the top. Can this just be air trapped somewhere, or is it more likely to be a master cylinder issue. Can someone give me some pointers as I'm really struggling to fix this.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Caliper pistons pushed the pads out to the discs?

        Cheers

Probably best with a pressure bleeder mate you usually have to use them with these cars

Hi guys, thanks for getting back to me.

I've use a Pressure Bleeder 3 times now which was attached to a 20psi tyre. I've passed litre after litre through the calipers without a single bubble in sight. Is this problem likely to be a stubborn bit or air trapped somewhere, or should I be looking at Master Cylinders and ABS Block?

Not going to help you, but I had exactly the same issue a few years ago after I'd drained the whole system. My pedal didn't go straight to the floor, but had all the symptoms of air in the system. If you held your foot hard on the pedal it would gradually sink to the floor. I'd tried eazibleed and the traditional method. Gave up in the end and paid a local cossie 'specialist' (they closed up / did a runner shortly afterwards....) to do it. I'm sure they ripped me off - some waffle about the abs block and sticking valves - but they did get it working properly after the first general garage had failed.

Please let us know what the issue turns out to be as it might save me a load of grief next time.

Dave, Sticking valve in the ABS block may not be waffle.

Jam, Sounds like you are up to looking at the master and valve block.
                  Cheers
