  • Temporary insurance?

    Hi guys,

Planning to do a road trip in July to Belgium and Germany with the Focus Cossie, but don't really want to take a full insurance policy out. Can't really justify taking a 12 month policy as I only plan to use the car for that 1 week only, so I'd lose out on a good chunk of cash if I cancelled the policy early.

So looking for a temporary policy which unfortunately, Need2Insure can't supply

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Al

I just insured it for 12 months and cancelled, as if it's in the first 14 days you normally can cancel for a 50 quid fee. Just go and check their cancellation policy. That's all provided you don't bin it..... I had the same when i took my mums car for a week. At 30 quid a day for temporary policies, it's robbery!

Aye, it really is a big con all round. Hard enough getting time to play with your pride and joy as it is, but no leniency on insurance side makes it harder

I'll look into the cancellation policy then, as £50 sounds better than losing all the dosh.

I think the best option I have is to accept the 12 month policy with my current insurer of many years, but end the policy after 1-2 months and pay the cancellation fee. Equates to the same as any temp cover I've found, which doesn't have as many benefits as Need2Insure provide.

If you're reading this, give your big wigs a shout and tell them to sort out Temp Cover Policies. Far more people would probably use their cars then

if you cancel after a couple of months you will prob get charged a fair whack anyway,i should check first, they dont work like if you have 2 months worth they refund the remaining 10

Oh no, didn't think they would. Will see how it works if I choose monthly payments instead of full whack.

Are you not insuring when not using then, like laid up cover ? Could be right in the poop if anything happens ?

Really interesting post as i go to the Eu quite a bit, but I'm a bit confused ( not hard really) is your car not insured fully comp through need2insure? If so why cant you take the car abroad. The EU law say if you have insurance in your own country then your insured anywhere within the EU minimum 3rd party. As far as I am aware all you need to do is let the insurance company know your going abroad and they make a note of it. Perhaps here is a small premium to bring it back to fully comp for the EU but I don't have any issues with then Bentley when I go to Germany, just tell Admiral when I am going and returning. Its the AA I find is a problem as you have to get EU cover as an extra. Which ain't cheep.

No it's off the road under laid up cover, so I'm not up for paying full policy if I intend on only using it for a week

Ahh, after re reading your post I eventually figure that out. I used to keep mine on laid up cover and I'm with Need 2 Insure. They would put in on laid up and then they would put it on road cover if i needed to have a drive but wouldnt revers it again when I had finished my trip so I decided to keep it on road cover permanently so I could pop put in it on the one day we get sun up here in Scotland
