  • 18 Inch Cosworth Wheels & Brakes

Hi, this is related to the new batch of wheels from here and not the older ones...

I have both a big brake set and a classic set... its now crunch time I need to order brakes asap and have no idea which ones to go for... models, disk size etc etc.

AP 6 pot for fronts is what I'm after as big possible and some ap for the rears..

Which model numbers should I go for?

CP5555 is the slimmest I hear.. how is the 9040?

    What about rear 4 pots?

    Thanks

Cp5555 and 378 discs is the biggest combination for 18".
5555s are the slimmest 6 pot available (and the most expensive).
    i have them behind mine 8x18 et11 comp mo's 6.
If nobody knows than try to find drawings of mos and replicas and compare clearence.

i have the 356mm ap set up, think they are 7040 calipers and when we trial fitted the wheels to my car they fitted without any problems.

ok I believe 7040 are similar to 9040, 5555 are rarely available... I think they may have been replaced?

anyone have any ideas what I can do for rear brakes? will the smaller discs and calipers clear?

I'll watch this thread, although I cannot add much at the moment.

I'm also in the process of deciding what size rear discs I can use and still use a spot caliper as I'm not a massive fan of the AP 4 pots combined with factory caliper for the handbrake function, I know it works fine but the looks just don't do it for me. I remember Dunc's old car and that had a Willwood rear spot caliper with the AP logo machined into the face, I thought that looked pretty cool.

I'm going big! I'm thinking as big as I can, I have the big brake 18" Rep ones and just hoping they can go 378mm with 5555s, surely they will?

Fit your big brake rims to the car. Measure from steering arm/balljoint to the wheel inner face. Adjust measurement for the bell thickness. Adjust measurement for rotor-balljoint and caliper-rim clearances. Half the rotor width + caliper centre to outer face dimension needs to be less that the number calculated above.

Bell offset will need to suit.

Rotor diameter will need to be chosen after narrowing down caliper choice and disc thickness.
              Cheers
