  • General Question - Engine Removal. Small Turbo

    Evening all.

Can anyone help? Is there any links for information regarding removing the front sub frame complete with engine and box etc.

Looking for a step by step guild ?? Just so I don’t miss anything.

Didnt know if there was a certain order to do things.

What parts need to be removed ?? Turbo. Manifolds etc.

I am doing a complete underneath restore so no doubt will have many more questions as time goes on.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Its not a big problem if you have Basic skills. You see quickly when remove stuff around engine.
From top of my head without a car beside me...

    - wires (engineloom, gearbox and main +and-
    - coolant(front and rear) and turbo hoses
    - (i remove rad/ic and all complete)
    - exhaust system
    - propshaft
    - clutch cable (lift pedal to unlock sekf tightening, if nobody with you, lift IT and put in something to keep IT up, then go under and just drag IT out of clutch arm)
    - speedo cable
    -throotle cable
    - arb brackets
    - steering shaft (put steering in center, so you know where IT should be, very important if airbag, since the "swivel" has limited turns before snap off, so also be sure nobody spins the wheel after disconect shaft)
    - Brakeelines
    - abs sensor cable
    - servo resavior hoses, or unloc resavior and take IT with out.
    -

-ac system if still in car

Turbo and manifold if stock can stay on, if aftermarked depend on how wide IT is.

After all rest is loose, suport it, loose main bolts on crossmember, lift car up abit, then undo damper tops nuts( this depend on how easy they Are to control while lufting shell off, so they dont pop out and hits wings++)

Its more ways to do IT.,

1: lift up leatherbag then knock out the lowest litle pin in bottom of stick, then work stick of by lufting/knocking IT up (this is often very hard to get off)

2: under the car you see gearstick is "connectee" to the rod by a bolt with a lckplate on end, undo that so stick and rod is disconnected. Undo and lift up leather bag, undo the screws holding suround lift all up, you find a lockring down there, take IT out., when those Are lose, lift stick out "complete"

You can get the gearbox out without going inside the car, there's a spring pin which fastens the bottom of the gearstick to the cradle. It's a bit fiddly to get out (and even fiddlier to get back in) but it'll save you messing about taking the centre console to bits
