What batteries are people using?

Varta. Used them in both my Escorts and never had any problems. If you're an OCD guy like me, DMB Graphics sell Motorcraft battery stickers to put onto them.

I have taken my battery out at the end of last season like I usually do to put on trickle charge and clean scuttle areas. It raised a couple of questions I wanted to ask. Sorry if this is a thread high jack or something like that.

My battery was a pig to get out the scuttle area due to the size but I managed to angle it just right and get it out, but I was thinking is there a really good quality compact battery that anyone has used that would be really easy to get in and out?

second question is my battery says first charge date something 92. A date in 92 and my car was sold on 8th Jan 93. Now I understand batteries quiet well and know that any car battery is going to last 5-10 years depending on the usage/maintenance. Has anybody got a picture of what a original battery looked like on a escort or did they all have various batteries in throughout production? I am wondering if the external shell on mine is the original one and some fanatic has re-celled it at some point?

Original battery would be the size of a 097 type battery. Mine is completely original from around 20years ago. When not in use its always connected to a battery optimiser.

So is this potentially the original battery that came on the car?

No its an original Ford 075 type battery and not a 097 type battery. Plus the battery terminals should be square and not round.
