  • Dilemma - What would you do

Well my luck ran out last night and the engine in the MG is knackered, went clunk, clunk bang
Now what has annoyed me more is I'm booked on at bedford a week on saturday

I have a spare engine but its an unknown, allegedly it was all running and fine, but we have all heard that before
it was bought to bore out and lighten and balance everything so it wasn't too much of an issue but now the current one has let go its quite tempting to try over this weekend to swap them over and keep my fingers crossed that it works and holds out, should in theory only take a few hours to do

But I do have the other option of taking the escos to bedford instead, what should I do?

If you have the time to put the new engine in I would do that. Just be careful

If the weather is OK you can also take the Escos ofcourse.

i think i'd be tempted to do the swap, you can still enjoy the track day without hammering an unknown engine, just be sensible with the revs and keep an eye on the water and oil temps.

yeah I think I may well take it, I just need convincing I will be alright in it

I may try to put the other engine in the mg also over the weekend and see what happens, bedford is not far from me so I can always swap cars during the day if needs be

Check all the levels, maybe a fresh set of pads and away you go! Couple of sighting laps, come back in, check everythings ok then 'Unleash Hell!'

it is very tempting to do it, pads and levels are all ok at the mo, but like you say do a couple of slow laps come back in check everything and unleash the full 252bhp

I'm just frightened of binning it, where as with the mg I don't care what happens to it

Sorry to hear about the old engine, Ben.
I'd probably take the Escort anyway...even if you go out in it you don't have to belt it around.
I'd also probably use the weekend to have the engine out of the MG though as it will have to be done sooner or later.

All the best with it, buddy, and good luck on the day whatever you choose

Bedford is the best track if you are worried about stacking it. Loads of run off

you will be fine...............whats teh worst that can happen?

its no bother about the mg just more annoying than anything else, thankfully the old man was close by to give me a tow home, funny thing is I have been carrying a tow rope and jump leads around in it for the last couple of months lol. Oh yeah and the fact 10 minutes before I had just filled the tank up with some super unleaded

Andy what's the worst that can happen hmmm, but as Paul said I don't have to belt it around all day its just the little voices in my head that are saying what if...... maybe I should stop being and use it for what it was built for

Just be very careful in the Escort, this could be the beginning of it's track career
