  • Speedo not working!

Hi, I hope you can help!

I have recently had my dials out and after refitting the speedo is not working.

I unplugged the cable and re-fitted a few times now but still nothing.

I have tried slowly moving up/down my drive whilst looking down the speedo plug, and as far as I can see the square drive did not move at all. I will try this going a little faster just to make sure.

Can the cable itself have snapped inside, or could it be something else? Are the cable easy to find are they the same as Mk5 Escorts?

    Anything else I could try?

    thanks.

It looks easy enough to swap? Just unscrew?

those burtons ones are crap, theyre about 18" too long ,gen ones are no longer available of courseare you sure you connected it properly on the clocks as its pretty awkward and sometimes feels like its fully home but isnt

Ive plugged and unplugged it, it seems to click in to place.

I have driven some more looking down the end of the plug without the clocks in place and its not going round, so guess it is the cable.

Could be the drive that the cable plugs into on the cross shaft, unscrew it at the other end and see if the cable turns at both ends

I will have a better look at the weekend. One thing though, how would you get the cable through the bulk head grommet? Both ends of the cable look too big to just pull through?

Can you replace just the center cable and reuse the outer sheath?

I welded back on The end that snapped on one many years ago, IT worked for the time i used the car, and if i remember correct, i actually think it was one of my xr4i, and then the cable is still there

So, today I have removed the lower but that connects the cable to the gearbox. Turning at that end does make the cluster end turn, so the cable isn't snapped, but is not turning while driving
Is there a drive mechanism inside that can be changed?

Is IT reaching out in both ends? Normaly its one end that snaps. If cable okay, IT can be the plastic gear on sump yes.

Lift the wheels up, and turn wheel to se og the square were cable goes into turn.
