  • Radio wiring help please

    I知 going to refit a 2008 and 2040 into my car, I have both units and codes, the wiring that I need back to the multi plug that plugs into the loom. i知 wanting to test everything before I go anywhere near the car with it and need a bit of help identifying the wires into the plug.
    the reds, browns and yellows speak for themselves but I知 unsure of:
    yellow and grey
    yellow and brown
    Grey
    green and black

    any help would be great

    As it turns out, I just got back from wiring up a Ford single CD head unit in my Escort..Right to left, the first four are input to the head unit and the rest are outputs from the head unit.

    On mine:
    Red = 12V constant
    Brown = Earth
    Yellow = 12V ignition on
    Yellow/Grey = Illumination control
    Yellow/Brown = Unknown - that pin is unused on mine
    Brown = Earth
    Black/Green = Radio on - used for power antennas or amplifier signal
    Grey = Amplifier signal for CD

      You know you have a 2028 CD player in your pic and not a 2040? I don稚 think that makes a difference to wiring but maybe worth checking.

            I致e got a similar collection. Have you got a fully working 2028 that you would sell? I致e got 7 or 8 but they are all broken. Alternatively I would swap for something else.

              I致e had a clart on with them this afternoon lol
              i haven稚 got a 2028 that works though, they both power up but I have no codes for them.
              ive got two 2007 with codes, a 2006 with code and a 2008 that I値l be putting in the car. I致e got two 2040痴, one with the code that痴 going in the car and one without
              two silver amps and two black ones, various cables with coloured multiplugs and the ribbon that goes between all three components there just seems bugger all straight forward

                    it seems seems to be the last cable on the radio multiplug on your photos, that痴 grey on my plug, I guess I値l just give that a try lol

                      That peach coloured wire goes from the multi-plug on the amp, to the multi-plug on the back of the cassette radio. These pics should help:

                        Thanks for that mate, that wire is grey coming out the back of my radio (doh) I知 assuming it痴 some sort of signal out of the radio to the amp, any ideas what the green/black is for ?

                          In the pic above, the peach and the green/black will both be signal to turn on the amp - one for the radio and one for the cassette (I said CD in my previous post because I was installing an AM/FM/CD). I don't know why Ford split the amp signal in this way, but it is why you have to splice the two together when installing an aftermarket head unit with the factory amp.

                            Can you get a adapter connector to convert stock plug to aftermarket. Not looked for years and will be removing my stock radio soon.
