  • 6 Deg Beam & Poly Bush Feedback

    Hey everyone.

I know there's loads of topics about fitting poly beam bushes and diff mounts but I'm looking for feedback from people who have done it.

I plan on going 6 deg rear beam but since standard beam bushes aren't available (correct me if wrong) I'll have to poly bush it. Can anyone who's done this let me know if there's a noticeable increase in road and diff noise transmitted into the car? In worried that the polys and rose joints will be much noisier.

Also I see its also recommended to fit an updated diff mount if doing the beam bushes, but again does this add much extra noise to the cabin?

I'm definitely not ancient yet but I don't want to make changes which would annoy me after long drives.

    Interested to hear your feedback

    Dan

Mostly the main noise will be through the diff mount I found, but yours I’m assuming has the full interior so noise won’t transmit as much as mine does. Nothing major really, but its a very small compromise in order to have a car drive safer and perform the way it should.

I have fitted the yellow poly beam mounts and poly diff mount and have not noticed much change in noise etc.
You do feel a tiny bit more vibration but it’s marginal.
Car feels much better on the road, the diff mount made the biggest difference

i have the 6 degree rear beam, with alloy mounts, poly bushed everything, coil overs, dynomatt the full interior including boo and rear qtr paneldt, and i have not noticed any increase in noise car feel tight and right on the road though.

            Thanks everyone.

I think I'll just go for it, and then if the extra noise gets annoying I'll put some dynomat in.

Must ring and order the beam tomorrow.

            Cheers

Here's my 2 penneth for what it's worth. 1st thing I did was fit a poly diff hanger to standard rear end and didn't notice any difference whatsoever. Then I swapped the 2 main beam mounts for yellow powerflex bushes and it felt like a super tanker and was all over the place. I presumed this was because the rest of the bushes were weak, so I replaced the rear beam with an mk 6 degree item, fully rose jointed and replaced the rear konis at the same time. The old ones were really shot with the 1st 2" of damping non existent so most likely contributed to the poor handling. I've had it basically set up at a local tyre place and seems to be pretty good although I think it could be better if set up exactly right. But covid put a stop to that! As for any noise and vibration I can honestly say I haven't noticed any difference, I also have front collins engine mounts and solid gear cradle mounts. The only thing I think made a difference to noise/vibration was the cradle mounts which was only slight but seemed to make such a positive feel to gear change its well worth it. I still have the standard gearbox mount as an uprated one is reportedly quite harsh. Hope this helps.

                Thanks Dave.

Appreciate the input. Too busy with work today but going to order the beam and bushes Monday.

I have just had my beam modified by OMS . I am intending to fit the yellow poly bushes and leave the standard diff mount . Having been in a lovely 400 BHP MAD car with this setup I can see no reason to change the diff mount

You will have a reason if you went in one with an uprated diff mount.

Apart from longevity of life compared to a standard mount and the cost aspect, it ensures the diff doesn’t flex under torque, making it and having the feel of being more stable at the rear. The main virtue is it allows the diff to stay fixed in place Like originally intended, but most standard diff mounts are worn hence the need for an upgrade. You don’t see a rally escort Using them lol I don’t run any bushes at all anymore, all rose jointed or solid mounted. Epic drive!

Diff mount made a big difference in my car, much more than the beam bushes

Is there a poly diff bush available to fit the standard diff mount ?
