  • Fitting Compomotive TH’s - longer wheel studs needed?

    Hey guys
Upon fitting my 8x18 et 15 compomotive wheels on to my escort cossie (with the nuts provided) I noticed the wheels nuts are only turn maybe 1 1/2 -2 times !
    doesn’t seem anywhere near enough

i recently removed 18x9inch MO6’s and this wasnt a issue it seemed while I was using them wheels?

on the rear I’ve just fitted a compbrake 300mm rear brake kit if this makes any different ?

I will also be fitting a Reyland 308mm front brake upgrade in the coming weeks ..

but on the front as is , it still has the same issue !!

really at a miss as to what’s going as , doesn’t seem a common issue ?

and if I need to get longer studs are the 60mm ones enough?

    any help would be great

    thanks

I got some TH direct from Comp, had the same issue, connected them who said they have not had any issue before and sort of blamed the AP alloy bells which are only around 3mm thicker.

Ended up going to Burton for longer studs, but also had cut them down a bit.

I would messure the thickness of the holes up to where nut sits.. If they are that thick, so need to change studs, i would ask if they where drunk when milled out the holes....

thanks for the reply mate how much did you have to cut them down ? 60mm studs would be enough I thought just don’t see why these wheels are different from my 9inch MO’s but comp say it would be safe enough on the less than 2 turns , not for me though !

2 turns is about 3mm of engagement which is not enough, the difference maybe the older wheels were made in the UK and the new ones, well i dont think the UK ?

These are the studs i got > https://www.burtonpower.com/grayston...-5-ws1215.html

I am 95% sure that i cut them down to 55mm from under the flange face, i wanted to leave them as long as i could, you could leave them @63mm and use open ended nuts. But with the nuts that come from comp they will bottom out.

                Hope this helps
