  • EU Breakdown Cover

    Hi all.
Thinkin of EU road trip this year in the Cosworth.
Any ideas of the best EU recovery service.
AA says it could take 14 days or more to bring the car back and Im not ever sure they will cover as Escos. I don't particularly want to leave the car in an EU garage for all that time waiting recovery.
    Any advice ideas please pl

When I did 8 days in the Alps back in 2014 (Christ, was it really that long ago !!) I was advised by a regular European Hooning friend to use ADAC who are a German provider....... I said, how's that going to work as I don't speak any German lol but as it turns out if you ring them and ask to speak to someone in English, lo and behold they transfer you to someone who does just that.!
I don't recall figures now as it was all so long ago that it wouldn't be relevant anyway but I do recall the quote from the AA nearly put me off going and that ADAC cost buttons in comparison........and as for efficiency of service between a British and a German company I'm sure you can guess who came out on top of that one ? Trying to put across to the AA what I was intending to do and what I wanted from them was like trying to communicate with a bowl of jelly & custard
Another tip would be what was back then called the Sanef Liber-t tag thats a little dongle that you stick to the screen so the toll gates open and charge you automatically as putting money in the machine is a pig when your sat on the wrong side of the car lol.......probably all done by an App these days but I wouldn't know......

      Cheers matey,
Im going to study what you have said and try and contact ADAC.
The advice about the toll tag is priceless. I was watching a Harry Garage utube vid and he was saying he should of done it years ago.
Thanks again. When I find out the latest up todate on ADAC I will post it on here.
      Frank.

I always use a one off with RAC when I go to the ring, £80 and they’ve never let me down. Well, Only needed them once in 13 years, but they put my car on a flat bed all the way home from the EU. Touch wood never again, but just took out another policy for the ring trip next month. I use a local friends ADAC to get the car off the track if need be.

Can you remember how long it took them. Ive heard stories of up to 3 weeks to repatriate the car .I suppose if thats the case, I will make sure my insurance will cover any damage in transit.
What spares do you take with you in the car.

Took out a single trop policy with the AA in the end.
Got some members discount so happy enough with it.

That's interesting as I didn't think the AA covered cars over 15 years old. I've just taken out a 5 day single trip policy with RAC that cost about £80 for my 24 year old caterham.

We had a discussion about that. Iirc the lad said to recover an escort sized car from France would cost them circa £1400. If the value of the car was less than that they wouldn't recover it. He looked into Cosworths and excepted the true value of our cars.
As it happens, I have decided to change vehicles and go in my Continental GT.
Because France is rapidly phasing in Low emission zone the Cosworth would be excluded from the zones with a max penalty of circ €500.
The GT is Euro 4 emisions until 2024 will be allowed with a permit which I now have.
That meas I have changed the recovery to the Bentley .
I will still be going to Germany for a weeks hoon in the Cossie but that will be at the end of the year.
