  • msd uprated fan switches

Sometimes my fans stay on whilst parked up and it flattens the battery. Are these from msd any good or just a myth. Anyone else had this problem, as i dont want a burnt out fuse box

I would be tempted to price one up from fords or the local motor factors first, to see how the price compares

      Yep its a common problem
Make sure you buy the correct one for the Escort as they have a 2 speed fan switch.

That's the wrong fan switch for a four wheel drive. I know this as I've only just come in from the garage after fitting one, as someone had bodged the wiring onto a two wheel drive one on mine and the fans were on all the time.

Think it only cost me £12 from Ford.

the fans are ona permantly live, so when you come to a stop and switch the engine off the water temp rises very quickly hence the fans come on

they will come on until the correct temperature is normal and switch off

i used to have a twin kenlow rigged up to kick in when the water temp when up as they used to on the mk 2 rs2000 flat front(thanks to dry stone walls!!)----------it would shut down when the temp dropped.
it was very handy and never had battery problems though.

That's the one I have got on mine. I have got the uprated wiring harness with the twin relays from Prometheus and it uses that type. It's worked fine so far. Been a year now

So i got a new one it reads 100/95, 110/105. not fitted it yet i may as well get some anti freeze and replace the whole coolant while im at it.

You need to replace the contact in the plug also by the looks of it !

I was hoping a good clean up with emery cloth would do it.

Had the same problem on mine, as said you may find you need to rewire the plug. Very easy to do as you just need to push the pins out & solder in new ones.
