  • rwd conversion

ok i have a ford escort not a cossie just a regular gay ass escort but i wanna convert it to rwd using the mazda bp-t4w motor out of the mazdaspeed miata and the miata transmission my problem is i dont know where to start or what i need besides the motor tranny and rear end. can anyone help me with this i would really appreciate it. so basically a complete parts list for the conversion and any insight or knowledge about the swap/conversion would be greatly appreciated.

also i was wondering if it wud be easier to do the swap/conversion or just drop the escort shell on the miata frame. thank for ur help

        howdy there.

this is a site that 95% of the users have escort cosworths the other 5% are hangers on lol and no one else has a american spec escort which are different.

i bet most do not know what a Mazda Miata is as over in the UK we call them a Mazda MX5.

i think were not going to be much help unfortunately for you.

        best of luck

I might be able to help you right out, even if the gays in the village cant

I have a Mk3 escort RWD with a cosworth engine, transmission and suspension. I also have a Mk4 escort RWD with a cosworth engine, transmission and suspension.

Both cars run over 400bhp running P8 Antilag Coilpack Airinjectors etc.

However they have been built two different ways.
One has a complete sierra 4x4 floor pan which has been made shorter to fit the wheel base correctly. This has been added to the shell under the inner wing edges and 5in from the side of the seals. So the whole under the car and inner wings are all cosworth. This means that every cosworth parts on the market is a direct fit. Also the motorsport 909 versions can be used. The Mk4 i have is an ongoing project which uses mainly 909 parts like suspension and running gear.

The other way is how the Mk3 is. I have used the std front end of the escort and only cut a hole to fit a box tunnel to support the gearbox. Then i have made custom mounts for the engine cradle from a 2wd cosworth to fix to. The suspension turrorts have the same size tops as the cosworth meaning that the suspension is a direct fit. The hardest part about this way is the rear end which has been totaly custom made for the conversion.

I get some pics up for you..
