  • Putting up 6-7ft wooden fence?

Im fed up with neighbours walking past looking into my garden and seeing the mess my brother has created (2 almost completly stripped scoobaru's at present), so wanna fit a 6 or preferably 7ft fence around the garden, but have no idea where to start

We already have a 6ft fence on the left side of the garden, but I want a taller fence and am not allowed to replace this, so will put it next to it. Then I have to knock a concerte wall down and replace this with a fence.

Any ideas where to start, what I need and where's a good place to get the equipment from?

    Thanks

why aren't you allowed to replace the fence, presume the deeds say its not your. If that is the case I am not sure how you stand putting another one up behind it.

Depending on the type of fence you want to erect, you will need (off the top of my head)

Thin spade or post hole digger
      Fence Posts
Fence Panels or aris rails and feather edge boards
      Saw
      Nails
      Hammer
      Possibly panel securing brackets
Postcrete or those spikes that go on the end of the posts

When you say equipment what do you mean, if you mean materials then the usual suspects

      B&Q
      Wickes
      Homebase
      etc,,,,,,,

Got any pics mate?? Can you do 7ft? as me and me bro are 6ft 7" and we don't want to be seen What about gates? Thanks very much for the offer

You can see in the following pics to get a rough idea what Im after. Where the current fence from the side of the garage is the new fence will follow down to the end of the drive where a current brick stub is. This will be knocked down and the 2 gates will go across the actual concrete drive.

Then the concrete wall will be knocked down and the fence taken to where the wall ends. Then goes up the garden towards the house and another gate/door from the grass to the side of the house allowing side access.

Helpful, thanks Ben We believe the fence is ours, but our new neighbours say that the fence is theirs. How do I find out who's it is so we can replace it? I mean equipment as I have no idea what Im doing/needing at all Me and the bro have 2 weeks to get started, so trying to get as much info as possible

I'd check on yer planning permission for a 7ft fence mate, you dont want to be pulling it down when the neighbours get the hump and call the council. I think 6' 6" is your max.

7ft from me would be too expensive bud, they would be one offs and i'd have to cut 4ft boards down to 1ft so lots of waste.

Thats what I was thinking. How wide are yor panels? Where could I get matching gates? Will get measuring the garden tomorrow and that will give me a better idea.

They are 6 x 6 mate, you could get matchin gates from any of the places Ben mentioned above as they are just standard feather edge. Once stained you'd never know.

This could get messy, you'll need to get hold of the plans of the street from the council or the solicitor you used when buying the property. we have the same issue with the boundry at the bottom of our garden, as on my plans it's the house backing onto mine, but in thier plans its mine

as said you will need to check with the council or if you have a copy of your deeds it should be clearly marked on there, if its your fence then rip it down there is nothing they can do

As a side note when ever I move house I always get a copy of the deeds for occasions like this

You don't need any special equipment as such, but the post hole digger will make it easier work if your going to concrete them in, if you have a screwfix local to you or what to order on the internet I find them slightly cheaper than the household names

My brother could be mistaken for a chav We have 4 broken cars in the garden (All JB's ) and Ive moaned and moaned about moving them, but he keeps bringing more. Hence I want a fence to stop us looking like council scamming fuckers Pushing 2 brokens cars out the way to get me Cossie out the garage really is not fun

Thanks for the help I will have a look into it locally, but the wooden doors seem very expensive
