  • Power Steering Pipes or Rack Leak?

After receiving my Comp's yeterday I got them fitted and went to get the tracking done on my Escort. When I was about to leave JB spotted power steering fluid on the floor. When I got to the tracking place and car on ramps we noticed fluid leaking by the inner cv joint on the drivers side, but unsure exactly where as we had no light spare to go hunting.

What I think happened is when I popped my driveshaft it has either hit and split the rack or one of the pipes. Are there any pipes above the driveshaft that could of been hit? Or new rack time?

My sons over the weekend, so cannot investigate till Monday.

the pipes may have been hit but I would have expected the crossmember to get in the way first, the rack pipes are forward/above the crossmember, it could be the seals have failed in the rack, remove the clip off one end of the rack gaiter and check for oil in there thats where most fail, mine included

could be steering rack gaitor on drivers side showing a seal worn in the rack itself

drivers side changing a driveshaft you wont hit any p/s pipes

When I changed the shaft I left the inner cv joint in the diff, so no fluid leaked. The steering is juddering as if there is air in the system, but was fine before the shaft popped out. Fluid on the steering is low.

              Thanks for help and suggestions

Every time I have seen a power steering fluid leak on a cossie, it is the brazing on one of the banjos that goes into the pump in the area I have circled...... I would have a good look at those, it is decieving as the fluid tracks down the pipe making it look like the rubber part or the rack is leaking!
