we wondered whether this car was in fact 000.
The owner of the car at the time sent me this picture
which as you can see is a bit of a shocker!there was never a front view of the car in the RSOC mag feature but if you look at the pics of the car with the
you can see the bonnet has the smilie grill type bonnet swage lines so I knew the bonnet was original.
I did some research and got chatting to Twins (dave) and he mentioned seeing a Esc Cos with a smilie grill bonnet when he was younger as a neighbour worked for Dunton and took the odd car home and he remembered a prototype Esc Cos which was black and went digging out some old pics and found this:-
One digit out of the number plate on the car and had the same bonnet and also its hard to see but it had textured black vinyl on the b-pillar like the 16v XR2i face lift had.
So basically these where prototype cars, I think you could comforbly say that L820KPU was the first ever Jewel Violet Esc Cos but it was never numbered as a Monte. Other things they must have been trying out on L820KPU where the colour coded rear lights, oval side repeaters and it has Motorsport written on the door.. the decals on the door are interesting to me as if you read the article the Monte.. was going to be a Motorsport edition but was changed to Monte last minute as they had just won the 1994 Monte Carlo, stickers on doors and tailgate are easy to change but it was too late for the seats and dash plaque and thats why they have Motorsport written on them and not Monte.
Monte 000 is owned by Ford and is part of their heritage fleet, It was at National Day '08.. note! it has Motorsport decals on the sides instead of Monte
Twins also had a pic of it from back in the day
Just be glad the Small turbo didn't end up like the black prototype
Russell the cars looks a credit to you nowI have pm'd you another item CDA showed me
