  • So who's next???????

I was reflecting on Mr Ripley's post..........

Amazing spec Es Cos, with all the "right" parts fitted, near as damn-it the ultimate spec road/occasional track-day Es Cos It would have been broken, but saved by a sensible "de-spec" option, at least lots of us on here benefit from buying nice parts at very good prices.

Got me thinking as to who would be next?

The "make it & break it" sweep stake. PLEASE add your entry / nominations.

    Current betting:

Franco = 5/4 odds on. Form-book: Lots of niggles / problems during the whole project leading to posts like "screen washer fluid ran out, how much is a trimmed shell worth?"

RWD cossie Wil = 2 / 1. Form-book: Has had a torrid time with his car, every problem you could imagine and not enough trouble free miles to compensate for all that agro. For Wil the grass must look greener on the Stuttgart side, so maybe it's only a matter of time.

    Please add your entries......

Are you implying that our Franco is a drama queen?

Defiinatley wont be mine that's for sure

Im putting Mike down as a bit of a wild card entry.

Picture the scene: - his car's all done, he's pleased as punch (and rightly so ) , announces it to us all via a live webcam , gets to the first track outing, the anticipation is building and bang !, he gets pissed all over by something like a chavved up 1987 Vauxhall Cavalier SRI
Will he get back to the pits or will he just pull up at the side of the track, throw all his toys, dummy and fancy WRC stuff out of his pram and then sell up in favour of becoming a fully fledged modified bufty instead

I get right pissed off with mine especially with how long its taking, coin running out and things just not going as planned. At times if someone offered me the right money for it as an unfinished project i'd get rid.........

then i sort me head out and just crack on with it

18 / 1 at the minute ..... those odds could be slashed by the end of the day.

The chances of that happening are as remote as you sending me those pictures .

Brings up the question what is the ideal road spec?
From what i see, koni's and a good stage 3 set up makes a good car. When people start getting involved with gearbox'x/diffs etc things spiral and they dont seem to enjoy the car like they did when it was a simple stage 3 set up?

The issue is that most people don't seem to understand the compromise required when fitting a bigger turbo, the spool up point is quite drastically changed:
Here are the the generalising specific power bands and flow rates for different turbos, based on standard capacity.
                          T28 2500 to 5500 (300bhp)
                          T3 2750 to 5750 (310 bhp)
                          T34 0.48 a/r 3000 to 6000 (350bhp)
                          T34 0.55 a/r 3250 to 6250 (370bhp)
                          T34 0.63 a/r 3500 to 6750 (390bhp)
                          T38 3750 to 7000 (450bhp)
                          T4 4000 to 8000 (520bhp)

So what happens when people go from a small turbo to a much bigger turbo, they don't change their driving style and end up being severely disappointed by the response time of the turbo, as it takes several hundered rpm later to make full boost.

You have to remember that whenever you do an upgrade and the engine capacity remains the same, there WILL be a trade off in spool-up that goes with the extra power increase.

Even I didn't like the compromise, so the only solution is to increase the capacity (until the VVTs become comercially available). This allows you to have a bigger turbo and the power that that provides, along with the lower rpm spool point that the extra capacity gives - a have your cake and eat it scenario (but at a big financial cost).

and thats why i like my escos so much 2.4 gt30 hardly any lag just picks up and goes (ideal caravan towing spec as mike says)

Your spec makes the BEST road car conversion for someone that doesn't like to rev the tits off their car .
