I'd go for an Evo or Scoob for the modern equivalent

It's better in every way, as it should be with the best part of 20 yrs technical progress.

I'd still have the escos over any of them becxause it's the car I grew up wanting

I don't think there is one as Rallying doesn't require you build them anymore.

You could compare it to other Hot hatches but they generally aren't 4x4, if they are they don't rally them. All you can do is compare the Cossie to the Lancia or Celica maybe but they are just as old if not older.

i think it depends on how you look at the question, does it need to have been born out of rallying? or does it just need to be the same in appearance as the rest of its range but have at least nearly double the power of the next one down (ie xr3i) and turn heads...... if so then its the audi rs4 for me although i'm not sure if its still in production, over 400 horsey's and sounds bloody lovely to boot, which is where the S3 fails (also does'nt look particulary different to other a3's), RS4 also has flared arches with wider wheels which the normal a4 does not, from this point it could easily be compared as the modern day equivelant - as could the M3??? although i'd sooner have the rs4 all day long. scoobies or evos have been around for too long now to be a worthy contender for this i think.
        one for the road?? ......

no cars these days are in the same way as the cosworth was made in its day they were a car before there time and no other car maker (except super cars) has the same done the same as cosworth done with there cars in there time imo like evo's and scoobies there all over the place unlike cosworth's when you see a cosworth driving done the street it has carisma that evo's and scoobie just done have and 25 years later and cosworth's are still keeping the pace with these cars!!!

and its 4wd sort of. there is no real replacement imo.
