  • annoying alternator serpentine belt squeak

has anyone else had this ,,, if so how did you cure it ....
i have tried all these things so far and its starting to cheese me off ....
    1.. cleaned pulleys
    2.. checked pulley alignment
    3.. fitted new alternator
4..changed the bearing in the tensioner pulley
5..fitted many new ford belts ,,,, the noise goes but within a few hours its back
6.. tried a new gates belt instead of ford ,,, same as above
THE ONLY THING THAT I HAVE NOT CHANGED IS THE SPRINGLOADED TENSIONER ,,,, MAYBE THE SPRING HAS LOST SOME TENSION OVER THE YEARS ,,, BUT FORD WANT 250.00 POUND FOR THIS PART ....
any ideas would be welcome please ...
    regards mark

no i have had them all off ,,, cleaned and checked them ,,,, fitted new water pump about a year ago .... there is no noise when you fit a new belt ,,, but you start to squel noise after a few hours running .... everything is also tight and inline ....
i have noticed there are a other same threads on here and other forums describing the same noise ,,, but none with a cure .... my brothers 92 saph also does it ... thanks for your help nick ,,, but i dont really want to spend 250 pound on a tensioner assy to find it dont cure it .... i will have to have a closer look ,,, because a belt dreesing or wd40 aint a option

maybe ,, like nick aka ,,radman says could be the other pulleys are worn ... might go to ford tomo and order up a p/s pulley and w/p pulley ... its got to be cheaper than the tensioner

My mate that owned my car before me had this problem with the dreaded squeek and forked out for a tensioner and it has never squeeked since

              Happy days

when you changed the bearing in the tensioner did you fit a brand new one? have you tried greasing the bearing as im pretty sure they have neoprene type covers which can normally be carefully prised out and refitted?
