Guys - bought my car end August and been on here asking bits and bobs ever since - as youll all be aware !! anyway - when I bought it from somerset ( Mark will remember ) TG91 who deal in rally stuff were selling so made an offer on it and went down and trailered it back...paid 10k for it and although it wasnt complete - its a nice car. Just had the Police round and had to give a statement of where and when as Somerset Police are investigating a claim of theft,!!! although not offically . ??? when I bought it did the hpi check as you do and came back clear ? Now Im shitting myself - and with what Ive spent on the car since I got it ??? I could be well shafted...! Im gutted..

The local two police guys who came round were car nuts also and were all over the motor luvin it and said dont worry as its a bit of a funny one... carry on with it and I should have no problem - apparently woman has said here son stole it some years ago and sold it but has never official reported it as stolen !!! WTF ??? and two owners since then !!! so where the fuck do I stand ??? im worried to fuck now... surely after alll this time this cant be right..?

Hope it turns out ok mate, only a small thing but I got turned over on a part for my Saph by TG91 on Ebay, my mate who also bought something from him on Ebay had a bad experience too!

thats not good news mate, but if it was soooo long ago then I am sure there is fuck all they can do. If its not been reported stolen within a couple weeks then surely they cant do fuck all???

I have emailed that chap on fleebay regarding some stuff and he is a little aragont, but then I guess ebay can do that to you.

Have you spoke with the chap you got the car from mate? if s what has he said..... also might seem a daft one but.... was they real cops.... wasnt someone haveing a good look around your car and docs? sounds silly but could be true. not many coppers go much on these kind of cars.

Also, check all vin tags etc engine numbers, see if there is any tampering around it.

This could be a scam if you think about it, A way of getting the car from you through the old bill. How can the person who is claiming its stolen prove it was theres/was stolen from them? are they on any old invoices etc?

Regarding what I've highlighted in bold you can pay the DVLA a fiver and get copies of all the old logbooks for a car, I know this as I did it for the Series 1, that way the person who is claiming it was theirs in the first place would then be down in the history of the car somewhere...

To me the paperwork don't mean shit these days, it's how good the car is on the day, if it's clean, straight and tidy I'll have it, owners and mileage just don't come into it in the real world!! UNLESS your going for a concours car obviously

he said he took it in for part ex and just wanted to get shot of it, but he had it for a year lol. He was a complete cock and like you said mate, I only checked all the history and owners out, if he was wrong then I could knock him down some more, But luckly for me she is all good.

Right then... what an afternoon Ive had !!!! spoken to the investigating officer down somerset way and apparently its a small part of a much bigger investigation ?

The car isnt stolen - and the guy who owned it sold it legit.its his mother who has claimed its stolen -- she is an alcoholic with mental issues !!! and has done this a few times with previous owners !!!!

So hopefully everything will be ok !!! but I can tell you its not nice when two police bods turn up and say your car might not be yours !!! Was worried to say the least.... and just my luck got the thing started today !!!
