  • Are bushes a ballache?

Now that the title's got you interested. Is it a difficult job (for someone that's not done it before) to poly bush an Escort Cossie and do the suspension and springs all round? Because it's winter now and I wouldn't be running the car anyway I'm tempted to have a go myself, but if I'm going to end up stuck I wonder whether I'd be better off getting someone else to do it?

    What does everyone think?
    Cheers
    Trev.

rear trailing arm bushes are a bit off a nightmare mate to get out and put back in and i wouldnt do them without a press, and when doing the back springs unbolt the shafts makes life alot easier part from that it aint to bad

Is it worth bothering with the bushes on a road car? I did have it done on my first one but just wonder if it's worth the hassle and expense for something that's never really driven hard.

There a piece of piss to do mate, and you can get any help you need on here when your stuck And imo i wouldnt poly bush the trailing arms, there spherical bushes as standard and are far better than pollybushes so keep them or replace them with new ones if there fecked

Tbh for a road car front polybushed is probably all you need especialy if your not a rapid driver also less harsh road noise, but maybe drive one that has it done to see what you think first.

Thanks guys. I think I'd better check out what has actually been done already and go from there.
And I've heard other people say not to do the rear trailing arms too, so that's good info. I think that's something Mike R says too.

I was told 9 years ago to not fit Poly Bushes to the rear of my Saph by Dave Jacobs (Local Cossie tuner) and I did it anyway Now quite a few people say to not bother with the rear trailing arm bushes and keep them standard

I wouldn't try changing any bush without a press as they are bastids to remove. I had to get an air chisel on my old rear bushes and the fronts I burned the rubber and hammered the shit out of the rest of it, took ages. Take them off take them to local garage and get old ones pressed out and new ones pressed in, take home and fit

the rear trailing arm bushes are like a pivot bearing, as they move, which is known to be bettr than ply buhses

ive always fitted poly bushes as nowdays the bearings are all loose and worn in the bushes due to age
